Loose Ends

A couple of things I’ve been meaning to bring up……

Steve Belichick Scouting Book Back In Print

I thought some of you might be interested to know that I got an e-mail from a California publishing outfit called Liber Apertus Press, who has had the bright idea of reissuing the late Steve Belichick’s Football Scouting Methods, long out of print and hard to find.

I’ve been kind of curious about this book ever since I first heard the author’s son talk about it, so here’s an opportunity to get my hands on a copy. And just in time for Christmas too.

I always figured that within the pages of that book we’d see elements of the team we’ve watched over the last eight years.

If you’re interested, you can get it from the publisher, but our preferred method is the BSMW Amazon store, where you can get the book at amazon.com prices and help Bruce out with his invaluable work at bostonsportsmedia.com. And we know you want to do that.

Tom Tainted

You have to hand it to Karen Guregian, who has been bulldogging the story of Tom Brady and his infected left knee.  As far as I can tell, she got to the story first and has stayed with it, breaking even more (and worse) news today. I might be naïve, but that sounds like good reporting, no matter who she works for, and no matter whether the subject matter makes me feel good.

It is a big story, what with everyone getting their first glimpse of Brady’s football mortality and everything. Naturally, we reacted to today’s news with our typical evenhandedness. I’m pretty sure at one point we had a one-legged Brady fleeing (hopping?) to the 49′ers after suing the Patriots for suing him, after they’d already sued his doctors for not being their doctors (and for possibly being Steelers fans) before Tom could sue his doctors for being his doctors. His folks were in there too, I think. Maybe a sister. The Herald was prominently mentioned. Anyway, football is pretty much over in New England, from what I can tell. And Matt Cassel sucks!

There’s no positive way to spin three different surgical procedures to kill an infection that is, at last report, still among us. That’s not even counting the first surgery, when they put the dead guy parts in there to begin with. Smooth move, Dr. Exlax! If these dead guy parts are so great, then why’s the guy dead? There isn’t some healthy guy that would give up a few spare parts for a fat check and some tickets to the game? Cripes, it’s like you’re not even trying!

It’s perfectly legit for KG to call next off-season, next training camp, and even next season into question. This, it seems fair to say, is not going according to plan. So you have to wonder when things begin to turn around. The longer it takes, the higher the stakes, it seems.

The whole thing about Brady wanting his own doctors and the Patriots reportedly being upset with that decision – I’ll remind you, early in that ESPN article, it says that the breaking news details are being nailed down by reporter Wendi Nix.

I say we wait and see.

Comments

  1. This has to be the first, and likely last, time anyone called Karen Guregian, “KG”.

Of course it fits because I heard she beat her chest in the newsroom after her second source confirmed.

  2. Box Score says:

I don’t know for sure, but I am guessing that Karen Guregian only has corduroy in her wardrobe, including overalls.

Leave it to Wendi Nix to bust this BS wide open. She is a tireless seeker of the truth. She’s very close to blowing the lid off this whole operation.

  3. I am SERIOUS about some healthy person donating their MCL, ACL and whatever else Tom needs to get better. I’d do it but I’m kind of a wreck, plus I’m 50, which means they might as well be dead guy parts too.

I know – let’s take them from Ben Cherington.

  4. You people doubt The Screaming Woman at your own peril.

  5. She’s close to blowing someone, according to Box.

Who’s ‘The Lid’, by the way?

  6. I believe that’s Charlie Pierce. He’s been known to wear some snappy fedoras while covering the local teams, so he got that nickname hung on him.

  7. Pierce? I’m surprised. I would have thought that moniker would have gone to Nick Cafardo, with his penchant for Russian hats.

  8. You bet the Patriots are pissed, Brady was supposed to be the first customer at the Johnathan City Sports Medicine N’ Things store.

  9. i’d prefer not to hand anything to karern guregian thank you very much. i get a greasy lunchlady vibe from her. i’ll pass on the waxy soggy green beans and her reporting.

  10. John Dennis had an infected staff once and it kept him out of action for six months.

  11. Yes Beaker, I think that came from dead guy parts as well
