Why Ryan will succeed as opposed to Mangini? Because the imitation is never as good as the original. I never understood why you would attempt to duplicate your rival/benchmark, and try to beat them at thier own game. You can't out-Patriot the Patriots. I am happy they went in a different direction, and attempted to simply be better than the Patriots.

I am a Jet fan btw.

The Patriots crossed the Rubicon in 2007 (some say 2006) - It became an offense driven team, the D was covered because the opposition was always coming from behind and had to go 1-dimensional by the 3rd quarter. I don't think that's changed, the big difference is that from 2006-2008 there was someone who would come up with the big play at the right time (usually!). So, who's going to that now? It's up to a bunch of players trying to make a name for themselves.

Good article.

To me what sticks out to me most on the Pats D (along with everybody else) is No Mayo, No Bruschi, No Rodney Harrison, No Seymore, no Jr Seau....Those are major Players that arent here right now...is the Pats D Bad? Hell no...But are they the same D they had in the past??? Probably not
