To clarify, I didn’t mean to suggest that Thomas is in danger of being cut. My only concern is if they go with two tight ends, and he’s the second, can he hold up physically so that they don’t end up on the waiver wire trying to backfill with tight ends. I wonder if keeping Pollard gives them a little better insurance at that position (which would mean they may have to cut back somewhere else), provided he can still play.

Scott–as far as David Thomas goes, I honestly don’t see any way he gets cut. His only problem his rookie season was that he was stuck behind two first-round draft picks; he played–primarily on ST–in all but one regular season game.

Last year, of course, he was injured. But I think/hope the Patriots realized that the problem was, rather simply, that they rushed him back too soon; they wanted him back so much that they held a spot on the 53 for him even though he wasn’t ready to go in week 1. They certainly didn’t need him early in the season, but they could probably have used him in the latter half of the season.

The Jets are wearing their old Titans jerseys against the Pats in week 2.

At what point does Brett figure out that the blue and gold guys are his team? Jets wearing blue and the Patriots wearing white is disaster for a good ol’ boy who just likes to have fun and sling it.

I was just sitting her at my desk smiling… I was having a daydream… imagining Favre and the Jets at the Pats 10yd line, Favre rolling out, then just before going out of bounds, unleashing a… lefthanded, behind-the-back pass, right into the gut of Adalius Thomas for 95yd TD the other way.

Like a lot of people, I’m interested to see how Chad Jackson looks. My hope is that we don’t see Moss much all preseason (he didn’t play in the preseason at all last year – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!) and that Jackson will get ample opportunity to prove his worth with the first team as well as with the backups.

Secondly, I’m interested in seeing Matthew Slater. I have heard that Slater is possibly the most explosive return guy the team has had in years, but unless he’s able to show that he can contribute on coverage teams as well as maybe emergency WR or Safety, there may not be any room for him on a packed roster. And if he’s really as good in the return game as we’re hearing, he’ll get picked up by another team long before he makes it to the Pats practice squad.

Third, I’m interested to see how Merriweather looks entering his second year. He was around the ball a lot by the end of last year, and sometimes all it takes is hanging onto that first pick and you’ll forget about the 10 you dropped before. I think Meriweather is a great candidate to make a significant second year improvement.
