To Shovel-pass: Thank you, re: Gutierrez (the new Matt). My man crush on the Gute is no secret to anyone who has been reading my own hack-like rantings on this blog.

Yes, the newspaper industry (of which I am a part, though not as a sportswriter) has hit a rough patch, but I am of the opinion that sports fans will ALWAYS want incisive, occasionally hard-hitting journalism about their favorite teams. Now, if only we had more of that in the Bosstown media ... however, Gaspar and Breer -- as many have pointed out -- are showing promise, and Reiss, I think, has proven himself above-average (though the Globe got pantsed by the Herald this Sunday vis-a-vis the Patriots).

As far as "The Ghost" goes -- yeah, I'm desperately trying to make "The Ghost" stick as the kicker's cognomen, since I have a difficult time saying Gostkowski after my third beer -- even a Coors Light -- but I seem to recall his starting off a little spotty, but by Week 3 it was strictly, as Crocodile Dundee might say, "No worries, mate." This year should be no different.

Felger has been spouting his drivel on the national outlets as well.

He may be right, who knows? But fans don't care one wit about the opinions of media members. At least smart fans don't. If Color Me Felger has some information on Moss dogging it that he'd like to share, I'm all ears. If, as I suspect, it's more bluster than fact, that would explain precisely why he won't put it down on paper. Radio and TV is entertainment you know. Newspapers are journalism. Or so they say.

'Kick in the Pants' is absolutely correct in his assessment of the Boston sports media. The good news is that with so many choices out there, it is now easier than ever to tune out the Wrong Borges' of the world, and still have plenty of outlets left to get all the info we want! Felger is an admitted 'cheese-head'. As such, no comment he makes about the Patriots can be taken seriously.

Q-Now that Vinny is back to play 3rd QB, which 'Matt' is going to play backup to Brady?
I like the new one.

I haven't heard Felger's "scoop" on Moss because it's gotten to the point if I see or hear Felger I change the channel.

The way I see it Boston has completely descended into a larger-than-needed pool of sports hacks, who all try to out-do one another with their own rantings & ravings. This all happened because the newspaper hacks, who see their business heading to the toilet (or already in it), primp and preen for radio and TV time; you see radio clowns trying to muscle into TV. There are way too many of these rodeo clowns, all armed with prestigeous Connecticut School of Broadcasting degrees.

I agree about the kickoffs, and as a field goal kicker, he was sensational when it counted last year. I think Pats fans ought to have confidence in the guy based on that alone. He's probably just going through a bit of a rough spot at the moment, so what's wrong with talking about that? I've always thought kicking a football must be like hitting a golf ball. Head down, swing through the ball. You pick up habits and pretty soon your swing is all effed up. Gostkowski is obviously more like a pro golfer in that his adjustments are/will be minute. Nobody's claiming he's Ian Baker Finch, though.

One thing nobody seems to mention about Gostkowski are the kickoffs. Yes, the FG inaccuracy this pre season is a legit concern (not just media conjuring), but fer krissakes, the kid's kickoffs are booming for the most part. That is a HYOOOGE weapon on special teams. How many touchbacks did the Cats have on Friday? How many did they run out from 3 or 4 yards deep? There's nothing like putting the opponent on their own 20 - 25 after putting up some points.

I'm guessing they get his inaccuracy issues worked out -- I mean afterall, they JUST missed; they weren't like my typical tee shots. That kid's leg is a major weapon for the Pats; with time we all around here may be saying "Adam who?"
