They would be at least 3 games up on the seventh seed and Balt would still have Pitt and both Denver and SD have Indy. The reason is that the head to head record comes into play only in case of a tie, but saying a team is an extra game head implies that the team with the head to head advantage could force a tie if it finished one back. For example, if the patriots were a game behind the jets, they would be behind them, but if the two teams were tied, then the head to head victory would matter.
